The Many Faces of Corruption: Tracking Vulnerabilties at the Sector Level

The Many Faces of Corruption : Tracking Vulnerabilities at the Sector Level

2007

This paper explores the use of prototype road maps to identify corruption vulnerabilities, suggests corresponding warning signals, and proposes operationally useful remedial measures in each of several selected sectors and for a selected sample of cross cutting public sector functions that are particularly prone to corruption and that are critical to sector performance. Numerous technical experts have come together in this effort to develop an operationally useful approach to diagnosing and tackling corruption. The many faces of corruption is an invaluable reference for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers engaged in the business of development.

Fighting Corruption in the Water Sector: Methods, Tools and Good Practices

October 2011

This publication is part of a series of UNDP-sponsored studies that present methods, tools and good practices to map corruption risks, develop strategies and sustain partnerships to address challenges and tackle corruption in the education, health and water sectors. They complement UNDP’s MDG Acceleration Framework (MAF), which has been endorsed by the UN Development Group and enables governments and development partners, within established national processes, to identify and systematically prioritize the bottlenecks to progress toward achieving the MDGs, and then devise strategies to overcome them. The studies bring together UNDP’s efforts to support countries to develop frameworks to accelerate their efforts to meet the MDGs as well as successfully meet the commitments of the UN Convention against Corruption.

Good Anti-Corruption Practices in the Water, Education and Health Sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa

Good Anti-Corruption Practices in the Water, Education and Health Sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa

Good Anti-Corruption Practices in the Water, Education and Health Sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa

UNDP has previously undertaken broader mapping and assessment of good anti-corruption practices at international level within the three sectors of water, health and education. The main purpose of this desk study is to map existing good anti-corruption practices in the water, health and education sectors at national and sub-national level in Sub-Saharan Africa with a view to contributing to the MDG acceleration process. In so doing, this study investigates select corruption risks in the water, health and education sectors, and what anticorruption interventions have been applied at local and/or national levels to address these risks. Attention is given to establishing specificities around process, experiences and outcomes, what factors help and/or hinder anti-corruption interventions and what lessons can be drawn for possible replication elsewhere. The aim is to obtain knowledge regarding the relevance and effectiveness of these good anti-corruption practices, with the overall objective of developing a methodology for mainstream anti-corruption strategies in the water, health and education sectors with a view to contributing to MDG acceleration in the region.
